Lake Kaniskee was said to have been named by The Coeur d'Alenes Indians, and it means 'Lake of the Spirit.' A ghostly girl with long black hair and a white dress is said to linger here in spirit, riding over the water in her phantom canoe. Some stories say she was an Indian girl who drowned herself after her lover was killed in a tribal fight. She was said to have rowed into the center of the lake, jumping in.
