Local legends say there is a ghost of a Shoshone Indian girl who lingers in the Lower Mesa Falls. She was said to have died while trying to rescue someone who was caught in the river. Witnesses have reported seeing her spirit in the falls, dressed in white. Phantom drumbeats have also been heard here.
